AWS Promotional Credit

AWS’s March 2025 update describes the Cloud Credits for Open Source program as offering promotional credits for eligible project infrastructure, including compute, storage, databases, development tools, and testing. The update says AWS reviews applications and issues credits monthly, except in December. Credit amounts are not published.

Eligibility and application. In its March 2025 program update, AWS said qualifying organizations must have an OSI-approved license and must not be dominated by a single vendor or be VC-funded. It expects recipients to maintain the project and engage with its developer community. AWS said it tends to favor projects that complement AWS technically or matter to AWS customers. That update described applying by completing the AWS Open Source Credits application form and emailing it to awsopensourcecredits@amazon.com. AWS said it reviews applications and issues credits monthly, except in December. This documents the route AWS published in March 2025; current intake availability is unconfirmed, and AWS publishes no decision timeline or award guarantee.

Credit terms. The current general AWS Promotional Credit Terms require an AWS account. Credits offset only eligible services designated by AWS, have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and do not cover applicable taxes. The account holder remains responsible for charges the credit does not cover, including ineligible services and eligible usage above the balance. The expiration date is the one stated with the individual credit; the current terms do not give this open-source program a standard duration. A valid payment method is required for an AWS account.

AWS’s March 2025 program update reports more than 200 recipient projects since launch. The application form could not be accessed during this review, so its fields, any application-specific terms, and whether AWS is currently accepting applications remain unconfirmed.
